If you didn’t already know, Reach Digital strongly believes that it’s crucial to support local businesses. That’s why our team at Hamilton’s downtown marketing agency decided to spend a day exploring some of the small businesses on the delightful Locke Street. We had the honour of getting to meet some of the dedicated, passionate owners and managers of these businesses, and would like to take this opportunity to give them a well-deserved shout-out!
Here are 9 of the small businesses we had the pleasure of visiting (in no particular order):
Sundra is a designer swimwear and clothing boutique that has been on Locke Street for ten years. They feature a wide variety of brands, such as Calvin Klein, Levi’s, and Citizens of Humanity. Check out all of Sundra’s trendy, high-quality pieces in-store or online – they even ship worldwide!
100% plant-based and gluten-free food never tasted so good! It’s safe to say that Planted lives up to its mission of proving that inclusive food can feel familiar and taste amazing. Pop into their store if you’re looking for something that’s vegan and delicious, from sandwiches to desserts, with a laid-back, friendly atmosphere. They even provide catering for any event!
Whether you’re planning an event or even just craving something sweet, look no further than Bitten! From cupcakes and whoopie pies to butter tarts and fluffernutters, there’s something delicious for everyone – and they’re all baked fresh every morning. With high-quality ingredients such as real butter and real cream, there’s definitely a reason Bitten was featured on the Food Network. Give them a taste to see for yourself!
If you’re searching for the perfect handmade gift, such as pottery or original artwork. you need to check out Textures Craftworks. Operating since 1983, their goal is to increase awareness and appreciation of unique items designed and handcrafted by over 40 local crafters, makers, and artists. With prices ranging from a few dollars to hundreds, there’s something that fits everyone’s budget!
If you’re in need of books, toys, or various home goods for your little one, Citizen Kid is the place to go. It’s a neighbourhood toy store that offers a wide range of natural toys of quality, integrity, and lasting value. If you’re unsure of what you’re looking for or have any questions, their friendly staff would be happy to help!
For all the bookworms out there, Epic Books has a wide selection of (epic) books for you to browse – they even sell audiobooks! Looking for something specific? Search their online store by title, author, or subject. No matter your age or your favourite genre, we’re sure you’ll leave Epic Books with a new book to bury your nose in!
Why not support a local business that also supports other local businesses? (That’s a lot of local!) The Local Life, located in Hamilton and Vineland, features a variety of handmade products (such as soaps and accessories) from talented, locally-sourced makers. Their Locke Street location is also the home of Small Batch Soaps’ first retail location. If you’re on the hunt for a unique gift (or even just want to treat yo’self), you’re sure to find something special at The Local Life!
LuLu & Lavigne Home Studio (which just turned 15!) provides an inspirational mix of new and vintage home decor and lifestyle accessories, and their merchandise is constantly changing to keep things fresh. Their vast collection of items comes from local makers as well as established brand names. Fall is just around the corner, so be sure to stop by Lulu & Lavigne to spice up your home decor for the upcoming season!
Who said playing is only for kids? Play With Clay welcomes guests of all ages to learn to paint and create pottery in their interactive pottery studio. They offer classes for both kids and adults, and host events regularly. Feel free to spontaneously drop in to Play With Clay if you’re looking for something fun to do, or book a group event for a party or team-building experience!
